Be Curious

i Know i am behind the times but i have just been watching Ted Lasso and i was struck profoundly by the phrase “Be curious, not judgmental.” This phrase, often attributed to Walt Whitman and made famous by Ted Lasso, may hold the key to overcoming much of what divides us (alas this topic will have to wait a bit) and holds powerful wisdom for business leaders and entrepreneurs. In business, it’s easy to jump to conclusions—about a competitor’s move, an employee’s performance, or a customer's reaction. But those quick judgments can blind us to opportunity. Curiosity, on the other hand, opens doors. It invites us to ask questions, understand perspectives, and dig deeper into challenges before reacting.

Being curious in business means asking why something didn’t work instead of blaming. It means exploring what a customer really wants rather than assuming you know. It turns mistakes into lessons, complaints into innovation, and competition into inspiration. Judgment narrows your view. Curiosity expands it, That does not mean you can run from hard decisions...but if you want a great culture, you want to hear ideas, you want to hear complaints, you want to get the most out of your people...Be Curious, Not Judgmental...and when its time to judge, be graceful about it (more on this soon!).
